NATUROPATHIC THERAPIES

Naturopathic Medicine, like conventional or allopathic medicine, is founded on biomedical sciences. However, Naturopathic Doctors differ in their philosophies and in the modalities, or therapies, used to address disease. NDs treat patients as a whole person – body, mind, emotions and spirit, all interrelated – and not just as a disease, a tumor or a symptom.

Botanical Medicine

Many plants have both nutritional and medicinal qualities. In fact, most pharmaceutical drugs originate from plant-based substances. Resurgence of scientific research in Europe and Asia has shown many plant substances to be superior to synthetic drugs in clinical application. Herbal Medicine comes in many different mediums, including tinctures, teas, capsules and aromatherapy.

Chinese Medicine

Founded on Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) including acupuncture, acupressure and Chinese herbs. TCM has it’s own philosophy of medicine and diagnostic tools, like tongue and pulse diagnosis, that view the body as interconnected both physically, mentally and emotionally.

Clinical Nutrition

“Let Your Food Be Your Medicine and Medicine Be Your Food,” a major tenant of Naturopathic Medicine, the efficacy of which is reflected in numerous professional journals of nutrition and dietary sciences. Many medical conditions can be addressed using diet and nutritional supplements (vitamins, minerals, amino acids) as effectively as conventional treatments and with fewer side effects. Most Medical Doctors receive fewer than 20 hours of nutritional education, while NDs obtain over 140 hours. Naturopathic Doctors recognize that a healthy diet is the foundation for wellness; after all we are what we eat. Individualized nutritional plans can include detoxification diets, fasting, nutritional supplements and education on nutrient-dense, curative foods.

Homeopathy

A system of medicine 150+ years old, accepted and used worldwide. Homeopathy is based on the concept “Like Cures Like.” Minute doses of natural substances are used to stimulate the “Vis,” or the body’s natural self-healing ability. Homeopathy is very effective in the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual realms. Homeopathy works on a subtle, yet powerful, energetic level and has virtually no side effects. Many conditions that do not respond to conventional medicine react powerfully to homeopathic remedies.

Hydrotherapy

The application of water, in any form and at any temperature, used in the treatment of disease. Naturopathic philosophy of hydrotherapy is based on the belief that blood quality is optimized through increasing oxygen and nutrient content, as well as both red and white blood cell counts, while improving circulation of this vitalized blood to damaged tissues. This includes constitutional hydrotherapy, foot baths, sitz baths, steam inhalation, wet sheet packs, cold mitten friction, among other water applications.

Lifestyle Counseling

Naturopathic Medicine’s holistic approach to wellness mandates nurturing not only the physical body, but also the emotional, mental and spiritual bodies. There is a powerful mind-body connection and both mental attitudes and emotional states can influence, or even cause, physical illness. Understanding this vital relationship and cultivating a balanced, positive outlook is key to obtaining optimal health and vitality. NDs are trained in various techniques including mind-body medicine, stress management, counseling and energy work.

Pharmacology, IV Therapy, Minor Surgery, Spinal Manipulation

Additional modalities NDs receive training in. However, Dr. Kenna Brooke, ND does not utilize these in the state of Colorado, due to licensing regulations.
